High time to have a good time: Ladies 40+ cooking up the new sisterhood

Updated: Dec 4, 2025

It’s not your imagination—these days, tables at wine bars and cafés are bustling with radiant women in their 40s, 50s and beyond. These groups aren’t just dining; they’re celebrating freedom, swapping stories, and planning adventures—with no plus-ones or permission slips.

Being fabulous and over forty is finally centre stage, and the restaurant industry backs this up: in 2024, nearly 65% of table reservations on leading Indian platforms are made by women. Globally, women are also leading the charge, now spending around 33% more on dining out than men—a flip from previous years. Girls’ night? It’s moved from a "nice-to-have" to a non-negotiable.

Science gives this movement a big thumbs up: 78% of women report that these gatherings aren’t just fun, they’re a lifeline to feeling recharged. In fact, 62% would choose a girls’ night over a romantic dinner—because no one gets you like your besties do. The menu might change, but the ritual remains: women say they need their circle every three weeks to stay grounded. At the table, conversations flow with as many layers as the biryani: skincare, career pivots, parenting, money management, new wins, health scores, card games, new loves, menopause, OTT specials and of course with a dash of humour. Food becomes therapy, comedy, even a group hug served family-style.

"Salt & Stories" nights with comfort food and no judgment

If the layered chats and laughter sound familiar, think Sweet Magnolias—the Netflix show about three lifelong friends in Serenity, whose legendary "margarita nights" stir up love, business, and a healthy dose of drama with every pour. Only now, the real-life version happens in salt-sprinkled kitchens, with chatpat masalas and margaritas as the fuel for sisterhood. Women all over are hosting "Salt & Stories" nights with comfort food and no judgment, as well as monthly potlucks where everyone brings a dish and a slice of their heart.

#behencode turn favourite meals into memory-makers.

That’s where SALT for Cooking joins the party! It’s not just about recipes—it’s about helping women "cook their fame" right at home, turning favourite meals into memory-makers. Maybe you’re becoming the friend whose rasam, rajma, prawns and dips is legendary, or whose kitchen is the community’s safe haven. Because in the end, cooking a little, laughing a lot, and sharing everything is where fame and friendship quietly rise—no spotlight required.

The best thing about meeting other women online or offline is exchanging the experiences of life over delicious food. The intuitive wisdom that seems so natural to women have come from generations of sharing and growing. The salt for cooking app does just that in the current times we live in…building communities that enrich!

Wonderful , my bestwishes to Saltchefs for promoting sisterhood!

I am a strong believer of our cultual & religious practises as our ancient Indian culture has lot of rituals & practises which foster social connections,  emotional support & sisterhood amongst women.

Festivals like Diwali, Navratri, Holi, Karva chauth, south indian festivals like attla thaddi, sravana masam encourage women gatherings & emotional support amongst women.

I feel awestruck that our ancient culture was so modernized and sadly the current generation embraces the same concept with western titles !

Kudos to Saltchefs which provides a great platform for women to come together, share our  traditional food & culture, while greatly balancing with the Gen Z :)
